ISO 27000

A useful starting point. This is the first document in the ISO 27000 series. ISO normally charge for downloading this document but is available without charge here 

ISO 27000 provides an overview and vocabulary for the ISO 27000 series, but also it contains useful information on the range of documents in the ISO 27000 series, information on why an Information Security Management System is important and details of critical success factors in implementing Information Security Management System.

Real Life examples

Brian Honan, information security consultant and blogger, and founder and head of Ireland's computer security incident response team, looks at the benefits and practicality of implementing ISO27001 in SC Magazine's look at 'Implementing ISO27001 in the Real World'.

In 2007 we conducted a survey of organizations which had already achieved certification to ISO 27001. In total some 312 organizations responded to the questionnaire with contributions received from organizations in India, Ireland, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, and the United States.

Risk Assessment Methodologies

There are a great many Risk Assessment methodologies, it doesn't much matter which one you select, but you should choose the one that suits your business or risk environment. As a starting point in selecting a Risk Assessment methodology ENISA has generated an inventory of Risk Management / Risk Assessment methods. You can read more here
