Future in Pharmaceuticals 2015

Another successful year for all involved at Future in Pharmaceuticals in the Aviva stadium.

Last Wednesday, over 200 delegates descended on Dublin’s crown jewel, the Aviva stadium, for the Annual “Future in Pharmaceuticals” conference.

The day consisted of interesting presentations from some of the most progressive mind’s in the pharmaceutical industry of Ireland. We also were joined by many exhibitors providing a variety of management solutions to the pharmaceutical industry. This ranged from metering equipment to software packages to monitor energy usage.

Minister for State, Damien English opened the event by explaining the key role of Pharmaceuticals to develop skills in Ireland. He spoke about engaging with academia to grow Ireland as a Pharmaceuticals hub.

Topics such as Energy, Environment, Health & Safety and LEAN management were given new light when speakers presented their journeys and how they reacted for the need for change in each.

Dr. Mike brogan of Enerit highlighted the proven cost and energy reduction results of implementing an ISO 50001 system. Peter Moran of Abbvie then backed this up explaining their journey towards the certification and the continual improvement of their energy management system. Peter also displayed Abbvie’s goals to reduce Co2 emissions and invest in renewable energy.

Dr. Ruth Applebe of Indaver gave an impressive speech about how the Circular economy will challenge us to make better use of our natural resources.

Enterprise Ireland FIEI Manager Dr. Richard Keagan asked us all a question ” Can we provide our customers with our product faster, better and cheaper?” LEAN is a proven management model to drive innovation, speed and reduce cost.

James Cullen of Pfizer Grange Castle in West Dublin spoke about how they retrofit 45000 sq ft of clean machinery to reduce energy usage. This was also done while still operating production.

The objective of the conference was well and truly met. Presentations impressed and provoked delegates to think about energy and environment in their respective companies.

Event chairman, Conor Molloy, asked the audience to raise hands to 2 simple questions at the start of the event:

  1. How many of you work in a company employing over 250 people?
  2. How many have a turnover exceeding €50m?

The room was littered with raised hands. Those of you who raised your hands and are not aware of the EU Energy Directive (SI 426), time is running out. We have the resources and knowledge to bring your business to compliance. Get in touch – sales@certificationeurope.com
