Minister John Perry officiates at Certification Europe SME Certificate Conferring Ceremony

Certification Europe held their inaugural SME Conferring Ceremony in the Hibernian Club, Dublin on October 18, 2012 as part of the celebrations for the European SME Week. A wide range of companies from all over Ireland operating across diverse industry sectors were presented with a framed certificate affirming their “best in class” status as regards business management.

John Perry T.D., Minister of State for Small Businesses presented the certificates to a selection of Irish small and medium size companies from technology, to manufacturing and services sectors that were recently certified by Certification Europe to various ISO business management standards.

“Promoting the achievements of the SME sector is of foremost importance to the government as the sector is at the coal face of Irish business. We have some 200,000 SMEs in Ireland, employing over 650,000 people. SMEs contribute €10 Billion to the Exchequer each year. They are the backbone of our economy and our communities and are central to our economic recovery. Today’s Certification Europe’s SME Certificate Ceremony represent a new era in Irish business as companies are implementing best practice via certification to ensure that they are at the forefront in their sector when it comes to competing for new business,” commented John Perry, Minister of State for Small Businesses.

The conferring ceremony awardee’s included: Antaris Consulting (ISO 27001 Information Security), Aspen Grove Inc. (ISO 27001 Information Security and BS 25999 Business Continuity Management), Enovation Solutions (ISO 9001 Quality), McElvaney’s Waste and Recycling (ISO 9001 Quality and ISO 14001 Environmental Management), OpenHydro (ISO 9001 Quality), O’Reilly Concrete (ISO 14001 Environmental Management), Pageboy Contact Centre(ISO 9001 Quality), and Taoglas (ISO 9001 Quality),’ who all represented the varied spectra of business’s which encompass Irelands SME community.

Speaking at the event Padraig White, Chairman of Certification Europe and former Managing Director of the IDA commented that:

“Certification to best practice standards brings two special benefits to SMEs. It is an assurance to the company itself that its own internal procedures are efficient and benchmarked to a globally recognised high standard in their particular area of certification such as Quality, Business Continuity Management, Environmental Management, Energy Management or Information Security. Secondly, certification to an ISO standard provides an independent confirmation to potential and existing customers that the company operates to an accepted international standard. Furthermore it is a precondition of many tenders or pitches for business that the supplier is certified to a particular international standard.”

“As an expanding SME we have grown through the recession by recognising the difficult home market, cutting costs, improving our internal efficiency and taking calculated risks by expanding outside the Irish market into the Italian, Turkish, Japanese and UK business sectors; with our UK office just opening this month, ” concluded Padraig White.

The European SME week is coordinated by the European Commission and is been run from October 15-21, across 37 countries with an aim of promoting enterprise across Europe in line with the Small Business Act for Europe. Certification Europe’s event is one of 50 Irish events which are taking place in Ireland this week. The initiative also enables organising and participant organisations to share their experience and develop further themselves.
