iCONX Solutions first to be certified to BS 10012

As GDPR comes into effect iCONX Solutions becomes the first organisation in Ireland to become formally certified under the new Personal Information Management Standard (BS 10012).

Dublin-based iCONX Solutions has become the first organisation in Ireland to become certified to BS 10012 which is the personal information management standard specifically designed to enable organisations to demonstrate compliance with GDPR. The certification was undertaken by Certification Europe, one of the country’s leading certification bodies. As Irish businesses come to terms with GDPR iCONX are leading the way in how many other organisations will in the future opt to comply with GDPR.

Every organisation that processes personal information is grappling with how best to protect the privacy of the people it affects. BS 10012 answers that quandary. It sets out simply and clearly what is best practice in terms of employee security training, personal data risks, what should be done on data retention and disposal, and helps organisations to put in place policies and procedures to enable effective management of personal information and compliance with legislation and regulations.

Who is iCONX Solutions?

Recognised by the Irish Government as “an inspiration to high-technology companies seeking to export their products and services”, iCONX has a worldwide customer footprint across 22 countries spanning Europe, Russia, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, South Asia and the Pacific Islands.

iCONX provides software as a service (SaaS) and managed services to telecoms operators worldwide, enabling them to manage and maximize interconnect and routing operations. Protecting customer information is the life-blood of the company.

iCONX’s services are delivered via primary and secondary data centres while managed services are delivered from iCONX HQ in Dublin. A typical SaaS customer may be generating upwards of 40 million telecommunications records per day.

Given both the nature and volume of the data being collected, processed and re-distributed, information governance has always been an iCONX priority.

What is BS 10012?

BS 10012 is a management system standard which has been developed to enable organisations to implement a personal information management system (PIMS). It provides a framework for maintaining and improving compliance with data protection legislation and good practice. The framework will help you to manage risks to the privacy of personal data and implement appropriate policies, procedures and controls.

BS 10012 can be easily integrated into other management system standards such as ISO 27001 (Information Security Management Systems)

Speaking at the awarding of the certification to iCONX, Michael Brophy, CEO of Certification Europe congratulated the team at iCONX on achieving a national first and noted the very direct implications for any organisation grappling with GDPR at this time. “Companies throughout Ireland are expending significant time and resources in trying to get on top of GDPR. This challenge will only grow as new guidance and case law comes into play in the coming months. iCONX have successfully demonstrated through their certification to BS 10012 that there is an agreed and established way of properly managing personal information, and that it can be done in a positive, proactive and professional manner which addresses the requirements of GDPR. iCONX have to be commended in leading the way, and it is a path which no doubt many other Irish and multinational organisations will following in the years ahead.”
